Ahmet Necdet SEZER
Ahmet Necdet Sezer was born in Afyon in 1941. He graduated from Afyon High School in 1958 and Faculty of Law at Ankara University in 1962. He started working as a candidate judge in the same year. Sezer completed his military service as reserve officer at the Military Academy.
Sezer served as a judge in Yerköy and Dicle respectively and as an investigating judge at the Supreme Court. He pursued a master’s degree on Civil Law in 1977-78 at Ankara University Faculty of Law.
Sezer was appointed as a Supreme Court member on 1983.While he was a member at the Second Legal Department of the Supreme Court, he was appointed as a permanent member to the Constitutional Court by the President from among three candidates determined by the Supreme Court General Assembly in 1988. On 6 January 1998 Sezer was elected as the Chief of the Supreme Court by the court’s board.
Ahmet Necdet Sezer was elected as the tenth President of Turkey on 5 May 2000 by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Sezer served in this position from 16 May 2000 till 28 August 2007.
Sezer who got married to Semra Hanım in 1964 has three children.
