Abant Lake Natural Park
Abant Lake – Bolu ;is 33km from Bolu in the western Black Sea region and half way between Ankara and Istanbul .
You can reach the lake by the E-5 Istanbul- Ankara highway and after 22km turn off at the Omerler-Madensuyu exit.
The lake area of 1,150 hectares opened as a National Park in 1988 and has many varieties of plant life that include Scotch pine, beech, larch, oak, poplar, ash, hornbeam, willow, juniper, forest rose, tamarisk, hazelnut, holly, dog-rose, bracken, blackberry, strawberry, raspberry, mint, ivy, nettle, mares-tail and has pastures of grasses and trees. The animal life here includes wild boar, deer, roe deer, bear, fox, jackal, rabbit, birds of prey and singing birds.
The best time to visit is from May to September, especially for picnics and for walking around the lake, and there are a few hotels within the park.
